Upper A - Tacoma Gauge Broken?
Anyone know what's up with the Tacoma gauge on the Upper Animas? We paddled there last week, and that gauge seemed to be WAY off. Looking at it today, it still seems to be recording flows that just don't make sense..
As of the last reading:
Animas Below Silverton = 987
Animas Above Tacoma = 895
Animas at Durango = 1920
Silverton is near the put in and Tacoma is near the takeout over 20 miles downstream...
#1 No way should the Tacoma gauge be LOWER than the Silverton gauge.
#2 No way does another 1000cfs come into the Upper A between Tacoma and Durango this time of year. Most all the water comes in higher.
If you look at the graphs over the last week, below Silverton has peaked a couple times near 2000, but Tacoma is nowhere near that. The reason I bring it up is because if someone reads the Tacoma gauge at 1100, then put's in at Silverton where it's 1700, they're in for a big surprise! (we certainly were!). Great fun, but very misleading on the gauges. Not a river you want to underestimate the flow on - which I'm guessing was the reason for the Tacoma gauge in the first place!!
