Tony Miely Update

Hey All,
Wanted to let you all know that I am healing up well. I got the rest of my stitches and staples out yesterday, painful, but i am happy to have them out. My skin grafts are taking nicely and there are no signs of infection. I am figureing out life with one hand and have been doing a lot of research on prosthetics. I am currently working on my bicycle and snowboard setups and think they should both work out well. Boa type lacing on my boots, Flow bindings, should make getting in and out easy and no lacing on boots. Bike is a little more tricky, my have to try a few different set-ups before i get it right. Thank You All for your support and go to www.tonymiely.blogspot.com for pictures and progress reports.

They did not cut my balls off so i will see you pansies on the water in the spring!

Tony ,
I feel a bit weird asking and feel free to not reply. I have an ATV. I was just curious what happened. Maybe you could help others from a saftey aspect. I wear a helmet but, the hand is not something I thought of protecting. Again, not trying to put you on the spot. Heal fast.

Yamaha Rhino

I was a passenger in a Yamaha Rhino, which is a side by side 2 seater ATV, basically an overpowered golf cart. It has a roll cage and my right hand was up on it. When it rolled it severed my hand where I was holding the roll cage. The doctors put me through 5 surgeries in 10 days to try to save my hand but it was damaged beyong repair. I am doing well though, my stump is healing nicely and i am moving forward with my life, working on making my snowboard set-up as one handed friendly as possible and converting my mtn. bike to one hand control. check out this sweet prosthetic at www.mertshands.org . Looks like it would work with many applications, paddling, bike, motorcycle. You can also read more about my ordeal at www.tonymiely.blogspot.com . Thanks, TonyM

Tony,
I ain't no Pansie, just an old man!
Let do the "Salt" this spring. I think I have an old picture of you at Black Rock-- almost sideways, with a raft load of chicks. I will look for it.

Tony -

Very glad you are healing well and in good spirits. Especially glad to see that you'll be able to keep doing the things you love.

We don't really know each other but I remember coming into 4 Corners as an aspiring creeker back in the day (like in the early 2000's) and getting beta from you. You were always super friendly and helpful and never threw us any attitude or ego even though we were green and you were busy and the man. What I am trying to say is I know you are a great person - I was really sorry to hear about your accident but grateful that you are progressing as well as you are and gettig back to the outdoor life we are all so fortunate to enjoy.

I hope to get to paddle or snowboard with you someday - drop a line if you make it to CB.
