South Platte River Cleanup 2010

Hello all,

The 2010 South Platte River Cleanup will be April 25th, 2010. For those of you that have participated in the past, there are some logistical changes for 2010. The website (4th Annual South Platte River Cleanup | April 25th, 2010) has been updated and contains all of the pertinent info.

Some things of note:
  • The route has changed for 2010
  • Please pre register. This will help the organizers with planning and you will get an extra raffle ticket.
  • We will have some outfitters participating that will provide guides, boats, PFD's, and paddles for those that do not have their own. We can not guarantee space on those rafts, but we should have at least 6 guides and rafts available.
  • For those without a lot of rafting experience, please refer to the http://www.southplattecleanup.com/pdfs/floaters_gear_list.

Is a 16' raft OK, or too big for this?

Thanks for the interest in the event. A 16 paddle raft would be doable. It would be tight in a few spots, so you would need to be a competent captain, but certainly doable. Using an oar frame with a 16 raft would probably be a little much.

If you would like to ride in a smaller boat, there should be some available spaces.

Corn Harvest on Saturday and River Clean up on Sunday. An action packed weekend.

Looking for a raft spot again this year if anyone has space. See you there.

Mad Max and the crew from http://raguides.com/ have taken their big cataraft down before with no issues. It is at least 40" between the tubes with 10' oars. There are always a half dozen or so 13' and 14' rafts with oar rigs at the cleanup and they do just fine. Anything with oars is creating a wide footprint though, but as long as you pay attention I wouldn't foresee any problems.

J-Rigs on the other hand might be pushing it . We would be able to load it up with a lot of trash though.

Thanks to everyone that has pre-registered so far. Keep'em coming. The more people we have that pre-register the better our planning and food will be. Check out the website for all registration info: http://www.southplattecleanup.com/
