Snow Kayaking

Have any of you guys ever gone kayak sleding? Looks like tons of fun I think. Just wanted to see if it is as cool as it looks.

Snow yaking

yeah,

I have done it a couple of times. The 1st time I went down a low angle slope and it sucked. I realized that I need something steeper so I went to a ski area late in the night. Groomed can be fun and bad. You can only stop by hitting someting like a tree though. Powder is really fun if you are on something step enough to get going fast. The very best time I've had was when I got dragged behind a snow mobile. We built a big kicker over a huge bulder in the back country. The 1st couple of trail runs went bad so we dug a ramp leading up to the lip. After that we were flying in the air with huge air time. The key was letting go of the rope in time. I landed hard a few times because I held on to the rope in the air and got bad wip lash. But I got some of the biggest air I have got in my life. Being in the air for 4, + seconds sounds small but when you just got shot of a kicker going 35 mph it feels like forever. So I guess this is a long answer to your question but if you can find something steep and that has powder go for. Or find someone with a snow mobile that can take you into the back country. Oh yeah, where a helmet you have control to turn but not to stop and trees suck.

Later JK

In Durango there is snow kayak races every year for snowdown. The newer the boat the faster it goes, has been my experience. Come check it out!

You guy must be new to town, you sound like you just showed up from Texas. Snowdown is the huge winter festival every year in January. There are posters and signs all over town and events every night at all the bars and resteruants. If you tune to channel 15 it shows footage of a bunch of the events. I believe the kayak race is on Saturday of the festival week and is held at DMR. So I don't know if you have your head in your ass or you are just freshmen but you should participate in some of the events they are really fun.

I'm outa here, I'm going to paddle that fatty 320 cfs thats pumping through town. See you out there

PS-If you like Snowdown check out a little event we hold called the Animas River Days
