Slide Rapid at 80K

This puts slide rapid (Lower Salmon, Idaho) at high water in a bit of perspective. There's a reason it's not (usually) run this high, typically even over 30K.

thats pretty f'in big. rapid starts at almost the 2 minute mark. seems like there is a line left of center. definitely do not want to go right.

Cool vid.

Flying upstream it doesn't look like much, but the closeups tell the real tale.

That floating log near the end has to be all of 30' long and it just gets swallowed up.

I don't know which would suck more - running that beast or portaging around it.

There is absolutely no way to portage it. Although I find it hard to believe, I've heard of people walking it. You'd better be part billy goat to do it. You either run it, or stay off the LS.

very cool. I just got off the Lower Salmon yesterday. At 9,000cf this same rapid is hardly a ripple. Hard to imagine....

I was joking about the portage.

But since you're so adament, that Hughes 500D would handle the portage nicely.

So there!

Uh, oh.

Word! In my fantasy life I'm a helicopter pilot.
