Selway..How high and how hard?

How high has anyone out there run the Selway? How tough is it? Group going in next week. Could be 35,000 at Lowell.

Know how to move.

I've done a trip on the Selway when it was about 30,000 at Lowell. I was rowing an 18' cat. We scouted from ladle on down the next 4 miles along the trail and it was a good idea-pretty much big water class 4 plus with some must make moves and not a hell of a lot of time. Solid rafters are key- 16' or bigger boats and people who know big water/technical boating. You don't want to flip at those levels.

I ran it once at 6.5-7' on the upper gauge (don't remember what that translates to on the Lowell Gauge). Very fun and exciting big water IV+. Totally manageable for a solid kayaker (definitely not a place to swim!) Those flows looked pretty scary for rafters though...
