San Juan in August

Can anyone fill me in on any negatives to floating the San Juan, Sand Island -Clay hills in August.
It seems like the launches drop off after July 1, I assume due to flows dropping and heat but looking for some insight from someone that has floated it say mid August..
It would be a kid float if we decide to go.
Thanks

Your kids better have a passion for warm weather. Last time I did it was early June and it was reaching 106 at that time. We were hiding behind tamarisk to find any shade that we could. And i'm guessing that the oasis at Slickhorn will be all dried up by then. Its gonna be hot.....real hot. Drag em behind the boat on Paco's if you go. If there's enough water, though its been a good year further south.

You might get lucky- that's getting to be the monsoon season around Durango- we had 6K cfs on August 1st because of rains in the San Juans. Definitely hot.

There's your reason to go,Bryan. Its your chance to see some side canyons runnin and waterfalls peelin off the canyon walls. Mind the flash-floods though....

We did a 4th of July trip years back (94?). We had good flow but it was religiously hot. E-W canyon walls form an oven late into the night. Pour water on the rocks under your Paco, sleep on a sheet with a wet cloth on your forehead. Tarps for shade.
That said it was a great trip. Kids could drag on the back of the raft for hours. No WW of any consequence.

On the bright side you won't need to carry a stove or propane to cook your food.
