Safety Kayakers Needed for Cancer Triathalons

I'm passing this message along from the volunteer coordinator for the Tri-for-the-Cure and the Danskin's Women's Triathalon.

They still need kayakers to help with the swim portion. I did both of these events last year, and they were incredibly fun (for a day on a lake, I admit) and it was great to help out. It was organized, and we were very appreciated by the organizers and by the swimmers.

It's easy, it's over by noon or earlier, and they pay ya a little gas money. If you have questions, ask me or e-mail the address listed.

All the work requires is a little shepherding. You paddle a small portion back and forth along the swim route, you watch for people who might need help, and you let people rest on the side of your boat if they need to. Anybody who can paddle can come, and you don't need whitewater kayaks. Even duckies were there last year.

Message Follows:
Hello Kayakers!..

Hope you have been enjoying the spring run off and the great rapids in the mountains... OK, I will admit, I don't know if the rapids are great, but I was in Vail this past weekend, and I wouldn't let my puppy or kids in the creeks because they seemed so high and fast... so I consider that to mean great rapids....

I know a few of you have already signed up to help with the Tri for the Cure and/or the Danskin Women's Triathlon, and for that I say "thank you"...

For those that haven't signed up, I would ask you to please consider it... A beautiful morning in the sun, and you earn $40 cash, and you help the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation... Not a bad day!

The details are as follows:

Danskin Women's Triathlon
Sunday, July 16th, 6:30 am to 9:30 am
Aurora Reservoir
Benefits the Breast Cancer Research Foundation

Tri for the Cure- A Women's Triathlon
Sunday, August 6th, 6:30 am to 9:30 am
Cherry Creek State Park
Benefits the Denver Metropolitan Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

To sign up, go to and click on the event icon... then enter your information, and click Safety Boater... I will then email out the details and parking passes the week prior to each event....

Thanks for your consideration, feel free to pass this along to friends!
