Mike yes it was just to easy. But I reread Cadillac Desert and am now reading Dam Nation so I thought I would test the waters so to speak.

Nessy I believe William Dunn and the Howiand Brothers think the two terms are related.

Many around here - Willamette, Deschutes, John Day...
Still confuses me after 18 years in the area, it seems like they are flowing uphill - that just ain't natural!

I can't tell you how many people I have had say to me "Do you know that the New River is the only river that flows North in North America?" OR that "The New and the Nile are the only two rivers that flow North in the world"

So I ask them why they left out all the ones just in WV that flow North:
-New
-Buckhannon
-Tygart
-Middle Fork
-Cheat
-Shavers Fork
-Glady Gork
-Dry Fork
-Laurel Fork
-The South Branch of the Potomac (and it's Forks)
-West Fork
-Big Coal
-Little Coal
-Coal
-Guyandotte (except for the very headwaters)
-Bluestone (kinda)
-Shenandoah (kinda again)
-Cacapon
-Little Cacapon

...I'm not saying that you believe the old "New River Myth" but, it otherwise sounds like you have very high expectations for one's knowledge of geography?

Haha nice I guess I'm a little gullible. I've heard people say that the South Platte and the Nile are the only two in the world but here in colorado the Dolores and the Gunnison run North I'm sure there are more.
