Purgatorie River?

I have been looking at boating the purgatorie river east (thats right east) of trinidad. I found something on american whitewater that said it was fun and another that said it sucked. Anyone else? I figure with all the good snow at cuchara this winter it could be a go.

I assume you read the old school trip report from Ed Gertler on AW from '83. I wouldn't be suprised if he was the only person to run Purgatorie Canyon. I have looked it over on Google Earth and the gazetter it looks like there could possible access points at Rd 143.0, GR B (Rourke Rd), Rd 177.2 and the highway 109 bridge. I have been looking at it in hopes of one day running it...but it's a long drive for most likely mediocre whitewater at best...but hey, it could definitely be an adventure!

I don't think I'd be interested in your potential 4-mile creek descent....but this one sounds interesting.....let me know if you decide to give this one a go, I might like to join you if you're looking for another boater.
