powerline rapid low water flip

We have been doing lower taos box at low water past few weeks. My buddy Russ flipped bad on powerline and we were curious if anyone knew of this ever happening before on powerline...?

Flipped bad.?.?.? So, are you saying he had a rough swim? If so, yeah, he's not the first paddler to have an unpleasant swim in Powerline....hope he wasn't injured.

Would appreciate more information on what flipped bad means?

Did the boater flip above the rapid and go through upside down for instance.

Also what was the flow?

powerline flip

He got knocked out of his seat flew up in the air halfway thru the drop, came down on his right tube, flipped boat over to river right and was underwater/underboat for 8 seconds. He got banged up but was o.k.

Glad it worked out with him being ok

At low water that drop is pretty rocky.

Yes, we think his boat did most of the damage. He had a low pro mounted on the back that he thinks banged him the most. He's pumped though. We are going again- this time with less beer. The amount of beer can sneak up on you because of all of the relatively calm section before the power.

Consequences

It's class IV because of the consequences... Glad everyone was OK!

If anyone wants to run the box, racecourse or La Junta run next weekend and can tolerate laid back rafters, the weather looks awesome - I'm in! Wanted to get there this weekend but the weather forecast went windy and my paddler backed out.

Right now I'm paddling a Puma, trying to get my oar situation straightened out.
