Poudre Still Sucks...

Some of us were hopeful that the Poudre might be running this weekend. I peddled on up there this afternoon around 2 to check it out. It sucks. I'd call it about -0.1 on the rock. Supercollider looks like a semi-fun slide. Groove tube looks like you could run it, maybe. Here are some pictures:

No Sh*t man- It is still very much winter on Cameron Pass! I was up there last weekend, there was 3-4' burms on the side of the roads from the plows. I skied on at least a foot of fresh powder and saw absolutely no hints of any melting. My guess is that run off will start in mid may and peak when it usually does in mid June. But I think it will be a BIG peak with all that snow. Patience is such a strong virtue. The Poudre NEVER sucks, btw, if you can 't raft you can paddle; if you can't paddle you can fish; if you can't fish you can drink by the river......

I passed through last weekend too. Also, no melt, actually more fresh snow. This post was intended for those who told me that it would be running, and for those who want it as bad as I do too... Figured that I'd save some people some trouble.

Also, none of the diversions that I'm aware of (I biked the whole thing) seem to be taking water out of the river. So, if I had to guess, I'd say that the gauge is probably reading what is actually running. You usually cannot count on that. Does anyone know anything about the gauge and diversions that I don't?

I think I ran it last year around 0 on the gauge. did it look like white line would go? I know Super will at that level.

If you really wanted to you could scrape along. Super actually looked like a fairly lame slide that would splash you on the way down. You might get a bit caught on the lip of the drop in white line and loose any speed that you might be able to get and just kind of fall off. These observations were all from the road this time. It looked pretty much like it did weeks ago from there.

Last year, if I remember correctly, Super was really fun. It was a tight line but it went just like it does at 2'. White line on the other hand had a nasty table guarding the entrance that was really tight and then it was a really easy 10' plob down below. I somehow got 3 FOCO boys to freewheel it with me at that level.

Fun stuff. Maybe tomorrow.
