Possible New hole on the Animas

Just up river from my house is a new bridge being placed over the Animas (River Road - Home Depot). It lookslike they've narrowed the river substantially and while running from town to the house, I saw the backhoe operator digging the channel even deeper. It's creating a new drop and pretty darn good hole. I went back and paddled in it after they stopped working. The flow is hovering around 500 cfs right now, and it was was nice to either surf or throw ends in, not sure what the behavior will be like at higher flows. It may wash out, or if they keep digging deeper into the river bed... maybe it'll get better...

is there any parking near this new hole?

I'll check it out next time I go to wal-mart or home depot. I am thinking one could park on the service road or maybe the back part of the home depot lot.. I will let you know

sweet, do you think it would be worth while to paddle from 32nd St bridge all the way down to this new home depot hole? i always take out at 4 corners

there are two more boulder gardens before the hole (sans the earth-muffins... ok bad joke) if the takeout is my house, at least it's kayaker friendly

Steve, if want to make a town run I will go with you. I have a broken thumb so my playboating is very limited. I don't get out of work until 4:30 but I could leave an hour early to hit the river. We can start at 32nd and go down to the new hole.

sorry, just saw your post. we did the town run today around 11:30, we will probably head out and do it again thursday if you want to come.
