Positive vibes for Melcol

I was hoping to cheer up a good friend of ours, Melannie.

I know a lot of you know her and how passionate she is about kayaking.

Melannie broke her right scapula today, she had just recovered from shoulder surgery and was at 110%. She has been running solid class IV for the last few months and was planning a trip to Nepal for kayaking.

I know how much this season meant to her, and with all the travels she had planned, I would like to wish her a strong recovery.

I hope things go well for her in the next few days, and further medical treatment brings light to this.

I am sad right now, and my thoughts are with my friend. I hope she will recover strongly and be able to make Nepal.

I broke a scapula paddling. I am sure there are many types of scapula injuries each with various outcomes but, mine required a surgical fix. I was back on the water in 6 wks. Functioning at the same level in about 12 weeks. I attribute how well things went to the skills/knowledge of my doc and doing exactly what he said. Mine occurred in a high water premium year where my friends were going from one destination to the next while I shuttled. So, Melanie, there are good whitewater years, stellar years, and low/meager years. If you had to partially miss, which one would you chose?
Positive vibes+++++, take some solace in being the camera operator, shuttle rig driver, and watch some good whitewater porn. Keep the rest of your body flexible and in good shape during any down time. Take care of anything that will be a barrier to paddling when your done healing (earn extra time off at work, fix up/replace any worn gear, etc.). It will go by fast.

I heard from friends that this post was here and wanted to say to Bob, If you wanted to make me feel better why not try calling? I was hurt on Thursday and last time I saw you was on the side of the road in shock and heading for medical care. A call or even a text to see how I was doing would be what a friend does. Just being that I was hurt was reason enough to check on me but on top of that you broke my scapula by hitting me with your boat would be even more of a reason.

I am sitting here racking up medical bills, I cant work for at least a month to two months and I am in pretty miserable pain and you post a Mountain Buzz post instead of having the balls to pick up the phone or even offer a hand?

very sad...

I've been biting my keyboard by not posting "Well, to be specific, MELANIE didn't break her scapula"

Oh boy, the plot develops. Best wishes to you, Melanie, even without having ever met you.
