Pools or lakes to practice kayak rolls

Does anyone know of a good/cheap(ish) pool or lake available in the evenings after work to practice kayak rolls. I live in Golden, but am willing to drive around a little if needed. The community ctr's open pool is all booked up for tonight so I need to find something else.

I'd recommend getting a State Parks pass, and using the Gravel Pond at Chatfield.

Sounds good! Although, their website says that the Open Water is only available on M/W from 4:30-7pm and Saturdays from 7:30-10am... Do you know otherwise if it's open during the rest of the week at all?

Bear Creek Lake Park. $5 per vehicle, or $45 for a season pass (this is not a state park, so a state parks pass won't work here). If you go, follow the signs to the swim beach, park in the parking lot near the boat rentals.

Not sure what that's about. I go there any day during the week, during any hours and use the Gravel Pond to kayak.

I would also suggest Bear Creek Lake, there's often kayakers there.

Goldtown, are you the guy who lead me and a friend down lower clear creek earlier this summer? You borrowed a tiny pfd? if so, thanks again.

I second Bear Creek Lake park as it's a rather clean lake. I prefer the golden WW park for roll practice though. Once you get your roll going, practicing there will improve your skills more rapidly. Having said that, I go to Bear Creek Lake to get paddle reps and rolling in for just exercise.
