Pool sessions are great, but...

Are there any rivers worth running/holes worth playing right now within day trip distance of Denver? At this point I'll take a ride down the lazy river.

I don't have an answer for you but I do feel your pain. Coming from the PNW, living here can be really frustrating.

It's kind of a rude awakening as you start getting more into boating in CO that this state has a terribly short season. It turns out that wet places are better for boating. To answer your question, Shoshone pretty much always runs if you consider that a day trip. Royal Gorge usually becomes runable in Feb or Mar depending on the weather.

I feel ya, this is my first winter in Denver and the amount of time I spend watching white water videos is getting a little out of hand. A few of the holes at the Confluence have been surfable for most of the winter, but it's more of a novelty. I haven't been there for about 2 weeks, but I might stop by tomorrow or Sunday. If you're rallying for a Glenwood day trip I'd be down to split gas.

Westwater is another option, kinda long day trip but.... Check for ice.

Shoshone and the Glenwood wave is about as good as it gets till April.

Is the Glenwood wave still sticky enough to surf?

I'd think so, but not good for much more than front surf and spins at the current levels. Maybe a Gwood local can confirm.

The Ark is clear from Stone Bridge to the swimming hole above Rincon (including the Salida park), and from Rincon to Bighorn Campground at Coaldale. We got out there yesterday and had a pleasant time in Pleasant Valley.
