Paddlefest Clinics with Nick Wigston, Kyle McCutchen, and Evan Stafford

Join Nick Wigston, Kyle McCutchen and Evan Stafford of Downstream Edge for these super informative rescue courses. They will be the primary instructors and will have other athletes helping out for each course.

Basic
Friday May 16th and Sunday may 18th. 12 4pm
Advanced
Friday May 16th 12-4pm

Educational Courses

Basic Safety and Rescue:

This is a great course for intermediate paddlers who are beginning to lead beginners and other boaters down the river. We will focus on group dynamics and communication including hand signals and river running strategies. These are important skills for groups of kayakers, and will set a solid basis for leading safe trips and avoiding accidents and rescue situations. We will also practice basic rescue skills and learn some valuable techniques for executing safe and effective rescues. The basic rescue situations will include rescuing swimmers while in a kayak, rescuing multiple swimmers, rescuing runaway boats and gear, and setting safety from shore. The course will stress the importance of communication and teamwork to effectively lead safe trips and deal with rescue situations when they arise.

Equipment: Not provided, Rentals available Contact CKS

River section: Buena Vista Playpark

Pre-requisites: Class II,III paddler with a river roll.

All courses meet at the RMOC Booth at the Paddlefest Square.

Reservations are required.

Please contact RMOC for reservations or additional information.

Advanced safety and rescue:

This is a great course for intermediate and advanced kayakers who want to
step up to harder rivers and be able to confidently deal with rescue
situations. We will discuss and practice advanced river running strategies
and communication that will help groups run rivers safely and effectively
while avoiding rescue situations. We will work on setting effective shore
safety and using throw ropes to rescue swimmers. We will learn techniques
for rescuing pinned boats, pinned boaters, foot entrapment victims, stranded
swimmers, and more. If you want to learn how to save lives on the river,
this is the course for you.

noon

Nick,
Noon seems a little early for a starting time. Could you move it up to about 2pm so that some NM boaters could attend? Thanks, Atom...
