PaddleFest - 2015 Line Up

Not only is PaddleFest a revenue generator for not for profits, but is also a celebration of paddling for everyone here in Colorado. We hope to see you all there. Going to be fun.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS - CKS PaddleFest | May 22-25 2015

FRIDAY MAY 22

SALE, SWAP & SHOP (Fri)

12:00 pm – 7:00 pm: CKS Main Street Storewide Sale The industry’s top representatives are in Buena Vista this weekend to answer your questions about all of the best brands. This is the one time of year customers can work directly with manufacturers while picking out their gear, boats and boards. YOU’VE BEEN WAITING ALL YEAR FOR THIS! (CKS Main St., 327 E. Main St., Buena Vista, CO)

2:00 – 7:00 pm: Early Drop Off, CKS Main St. Annual Gear Swap Drop off your gear to sell at the swap. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! (CKS Main St.)

COMPETITIONS (Fri)

4:00 – 6:00 pm: BV Kayak Rodeo PRO QUALIFYING ROUNDS. Come watch the the world’s best freestyle kayakers compete in the state’s most dynamic river feature for a chance at the finals on Saturday evening. (South Main)

WORKSHOPS (Fri)

10:30am-12:30pm: Hydraulic High-school w/ Team Jackson. Take your down-river confidence to the next level by learning how and where to punch holes like the pro’s. (South Main)

4:00-5:00 pm: Power SUP Join Natali Zollinger, from Natilus SUP, based in Moab, Utah, for an on-water power hour. This 1-hr class is a SUP exercise extravaganza that is both challenging and fun. GET FIT WITH AN EXPERT! (Town Pond)

SOCIAL (Fri)

4:00 – 10:00 pm: Town Party at PaddleFest w/ Live Music Bring the entire family to the South Main for an evening of libations, live music, food, arts, crafts and games. All while watching the best athletes in the world compere in the BV Pro Rodeo. This is the major fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Clubs at Paddle Fest. Bring out your dancing shoes and have some after hours fun. THE BEACH, “THE BEST MUSIC VENUE IN COLORADO,” THAT BEACH. (South Main)

7:45-8:45 pm: Can I Surf That (The Movie) The river surfing movie follows the adventures of four waterwomen with an insatiable appetite for whitewater and adventure. LADIES RIPPING. (South Main)

10:00 pm – close: Late Night Music Keep the party going at the Asian Palate. IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME TO BV, LET ME LET YOU IN ON A LITTLE SECRET. (Asian Palate)

SATURDAY MAY 23

9:00 am – 7:00 pm - CKS Storewide Sale The nation’s best brands combined with the industry’s top representatives to answer all of your questions. This is the one time of year customers can work directly with manufacturers while picking out their gear, boats and boards. BEST DEALS OF THE SEASON. (CKS Main St.)

9:00 am – 5:00 pm - Boat & Bike Swap Got used paddling stuff to sell? Want to buy some used gear and boats? This is Colorado’s largest used paddling Swap open to the public. Boneshaker Bike Swap! Sell/buy used bikes. UPGRADE, DOWNGRADE, RETRO YOUR QUIVER. (CKS Main St)

9:00am – 2:00pm – CCFA Farmers Market The Central Colorado FoodShed Alliance (CCFA) hosts an early season Farmers Market. Get your starts and first of the season veggies! (CKS Main St.)

GEAR DEMOS (Sat)

11am-3pm- Whitewater Demo Center – Talk with reps from all the paddling gear companies and test the new 2014 whitewater kayaks, SUPs, Paddles, and more. Vendor Center South Main.

12pm-2pm- ADULT Flatwater Demo Center - Talk with reps from all the paddling gear companies and test the new 2014 Flatwater kayaks, SUPs, Paddles, and more. (Town Pond)

2pm-3pm- KIDS Flatwater Demo Center - Kids take over the pond, try out gear and warm up for your 3pm flatwater competitions. (Town Pond)

12pm-2pm- Surf SUP Expo Meet at the BV River Park and Demo new Boards from BoardWorks and BadFish SUPs. Learn more about River SUP and demo this year’s river-specific SUP surf boards. This is for people with previous river SUP experience. Must have your own paddling gear. Demo boards will be provided. (South Main)

COMPETITIONS (Sat)

9:00am – 2:00pm – Yucca Classic Disc Golf Tournament Amateur Disc Golf Tournament for a chance to be crowned the best in the Yucca. All ages. (CKS Main St)

9:00 AM -12:00 PM – BV Kayak Rodeo – OPEN CLASS COMPETITION (ages 18+)- Mere mortals and up-and-coming kayakers compete in a fun-filled kayak competition. A RODEO FOR ALL! (South Main).

12:00pm-1:00pm BV Kayak Rodeo – Cadets (ages 6-13)

1:00pm-2:00pm BV Kayak Rodeo – Juniors (ages 14-17)

2:00pm-4:00pm BV Kayak Rodeo – Pro Semi-Finals

4:00pm-6:00pm BV Kayak Rodeo – Pro Finals -Watch the best in the world battle it out for the BV Kayaking Title. A must see event full of excitement and thrills. Fun activities, foods, art and spirits will accompany the event. A RODEO FOR ALL … TO WATCH. (South Main).

2:00 pm – 5:00 pm – Bouldering Competition (Kids & Adults) hosted by the Trailhead at The Boulders at South Main. It’s gonna be awesome. (South Main).

6:00 – 7:00pm- SUPHill-DownHill Meet at the South Main River Park at 5:00pm with your boards and all your gear for instructions. A fun uphill, but short, and tiring upstream paddle and a Chinese downhill SUP River Race to the finish line in South Main. A REAL HOOT! (South Main).

WORKSHOPS (Sat)

9am-5:00pm- RMOC Paddling Courses (Click here for a list of all of RMOC’s great classes). From first time paddling classes to advanced techniques. LOTS of GREAT WORKSHOPS! (CKS Main St.)

9:00-10:30am – RMOC Kids (Town Pond)

10:00-11:00am – SUP Yoga Learn how to apply fun and basic Yoga techniques on dry land and then yoga up on a SUP board. (Town Pond)

10:00 AM – 4:00 PM SUP Stroke & Maneuvers With Dan Gavere. Join Dan Gavere, the nation’s leader in whitewater SUP, for a fun-filled day on the Arkansas River. (CKS Main St./South Main)

10:30-11:30 – Outfitting Clinic w/ Clay Wright from Jackson Kayaks. (CKS Main St.)

10:30-12:00 pm- Kayak Stroke Clinic w/ Eric Jackson. (Town Pond)

SOCIAL (Sat)

9am: Community Dog Walk hosted by Gone to the Dogs. Meet at Gone to the Dogs at the corner of East Main and Railroad. Bring your dog, a leash and some xtra baggies. (Gone to the Dogs)

4pm-10pm: Paddles & Pints w/ Live Music Bring the entire family to South Main River for an evening of libations, live music, food, arts, crafts and games, while watching the best athletes in the world compete in the BV Pro Rodeo. This is the major fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Clubs at Paddle Fest so come on out and help support the youth of Chaffee County! (South Main)

8:00 AM - Spirit Trail Run and River Walk 1/2 marathon ( 13.1 miles ) 8K ( 4.97 miles ) and 3 K trail running races that wind through the hills along the Whipple and Broken Boyfriend Trails and Midland Trail systems, providing incredible views and a fun-fulfilled way to start your Sunday morning! And a fun walk for people of all ages and abilities through the Buena Vista River Park. NEW HALF MARATHON! (Community Center)

11:00am – 1:00pm Rule to Roost Bike Race Put down the Paddle and Pedal through BV’s world class mountain bike trail system. (Community Center)

3:00pm - Buoy Bonanza - Fun kayak and SUP race around buoys. Bring your talent and your friends to compete for prizes. A family friendly and all ages all abilities event. (Town Pond)

6:00 pm - BV FUN Raft Race The fun and casual raft race circuit makes a stop at PaddleFest 2015 where raft racers give it their all in a sprint style race through the River Park. (South Main)

WORKSHOPS (Sun)

9am-5pm- RMOC Paddling Courses. From first time paddling classes to advanced techniques. LOTS of GREAT WORKSHOPS! (CKS Main St.)

9:00-10:30am – RMOC Kids (Town Pond)

9:00 – 10:00am – SUP Pilates INFO COMING SOON

10:30-3:30pm – Women in Charge – Arkansas River Takeover w/ Laura Farrell – Inspired by a Takeover event on the Green River last Fall, the idea of this day is to get as many awesome women as we can out on the Arkansas river together.

11:00-2:00pm: SUP River Play w/ Brittany Parker- Improve your surfing and eddy line tricks at the BV River Park. Previous experience required. (South Main)

NOON – 3:00pm – X-Plore Games: A GPS Scavenger Hunt for parents and kids. (Town Pond)

6 – 9 PM - Kids, Kayaks and Groovers – Oh My! Family Float (10:30am), Family Dinner (6pm), Slideshow (8pm). Join photographers Peter, Kathy and Abby Holcombe from the Jackson Kayak Exploration Team, for a fun filled evening celebrating families on the river. We will kick off the night with a lasagna dinner followed by a presentation filled with beautiful images. A TRULY SPECIAL SLIDESHOW. DONT MISS IT. $10 adults/$5 kids (Various Locations)

MONDAY MAY 25

COMPETITIONS (Mon)

11am-2pm - Race to the Grill: The annual River Runners’ Race to the Grill will be a downriver race through the infamous Milk Run section (aka family float section) of the Arkansas River. Participants will race in a time trials fashion down this Class 2 section of whitewater and can race in rafts, kayaks or SUP boards. Race will end at the River Runner Grill for an afternoon of relaxation on the sandy beaches of the Arkansas River. Cold beverages and hot tacos will be waiting for you at the River Runners-Riverside Grill. (River Runners)

Yes, the women in charge is a great example of how unique Paddlefest is for paddlers, both new and those with experience.
There are so many workshops and events to check out. Our mission is help convert people to paddlers. The more paddlers we all have on our team, the more eyes an ears we have on ground level to protect our limited resources. In hopes that our cherished industry continues to thrive. We look forward to seeing many of you all here.
