OARdeal in Westwater

OK to put it simple I flipped at the top of skull rapid on July 9th around 12 noon and got "SHAFTED" lol... Somewhere from that point to downstream someplace is a 9' Cataract OAR Counter balanced and yellow in color. it has a cataract blade (black) or atleast did before the flip.

If anyone finds it please use the number on the shaft. it has my name and number written down near the blade. obviously reward awaits....

Story is simple and many of you will understand the senario.

I attempted to pull into the scout eddy (on the down stream side) while I was the sweep boat and had no room to make it in. Figured I would stay with the group. My passenger grabbed the bow line and jumped on shore. Unable to hold the boat in the eddy I told her to let it go and took the current right straight into the first hole sideways. It flipped me and so the swim began.

Surprisingly I found the rapid wasn't as deep as expected. Lesson is as always in the past I won't scout skull unless up in the terrible teens and even then probably not. I will wear a helmet when running skull. Other than that, every other aspect went without a hitch from self rescue to following the down stream craft to flipping the raft via Z drag. All simple and the crew was spot on.

Anyhow back to the reason I am posting. If you find that OAR please contact me at 303 nine zero two 66 nine zero. Reward awaits. and I will pay for shipping or make the trip to pick it up. Plus mad karma points for the hero who finds my shaft....lol

PS.... I also want to make it known that Buck (the ranger at westwater) is one of the most friendly and cool rangers I have met in years (that statement is not Westwater specific). Thanks Buck for the insights you provided given camps etc. at these levels. low 3000's. You the Man!!!

Sorry to hear about your carnage. Yes, scouting skull can put you out of position to make the move with the right momentum. I've seen and been in more chaos from the scout than just running it.
