I love that area. Spent some time there, close to the San Miguel, Dolores, the Animas and other rivers. Telluride is pretty close for skiing.

not much going on in Norwood proper, although they are putting in some single track this year.
close to the naturita climbing, and only 1.4 hrs to moab. closest paddling to norwood town would be a miguel section about 10-15 min. away that would make for a great daily routine in the season. ledges section (norwood canyon takeout) of the miguel is about 25 minutes away. You would be half an hour from telluride and the great skiing, biking, and climbing there. the miguel from telluride to norwood offers about 30 miles of scenic continuous class 3, with a couple of top sections having harder stuff. Season is about 2 months, longer if you learn to accept lower flows. durango about 2.5 hrs away, fruita about 2.5 hours away, upper dolores (stoner) about 1.5 hrs away. Great area to live in, not many people, and tons of diverse goods within a reasonable drive.

Don't let the small size of Norwood surprise you. I have lived here for 6 years and have found this place to be full of boaters, climbers and bikers. And for good reason, as Steven pointed out, this area has alot going for it and is not overun like alot of other places. Some of the areas west of here have some of the most awesome and remote canyons that I have seen and are rarely visited.
