North Platte Camping

For all the guys/girls out there that are familiar with the North Platte I have a question about camping. When you do a multi day trip camping can only be done at a designated site, my question is do you need to reserve a spot ahead of time? I come from Oregon where on many rivers you can camp all along BLM land so there is never really a shortage of spots.

Thanks.
