Need Tip Advice

First off, found this forum to be very informational.

Heres the question, took the wife on a guided 1/2 day this past weekend. $55 per head. Left a $20 tip. Went solo the next day on a full day, $99 for the trip. Left a $20 tip.

Were the amounts left appropriate? I'm assuming that most outfits pay some but let the guides rely on tips. Just want to make sure I'm treating the guides right!

That is a pretty damn good tip...I guided on the Ocoee and would be happy with $20 a boat (6 people in the raft)

Damn StoneJ, I know on the second trip there were 4 of us who tipped $20 each. Don't know what the other three left, if anything.

I think the 2 month's salary is what's suggested by the River Guide's Association. Remember, its only a guidesline and not an actual requirement.

I'd think $10 or $15 is a decent tip and if they got that from half their clients they'd be REALLY happy. Maybe someone who'd guided can provide more guidance on this issue.

I have been a kayak instructor for three years. I can assure you that any tips are greatly appreciated. Tips vary greatly among students. Companys and guides usually suggest 5-20% (imagine they seved you food). I have recieved as little as $5 per person per day and as much as $100 per person per day. The average seems to be $20 per person per day. Please understand that your guide is working hard for you before, during and after you see him/her. However, it is your money and your poragative to show your guide what you thought of their service.

Ok ttuff, just want to make sure I'm on board.

$20 per person per day. Does this equate to a full day trip versus a 1/2 day trip. My guide was great and plan on asking for him again in the future. I want to make sure I'm taking care of him, to the best of my ability.

I would say 10 a person is average to slightly above avereage. 20 a person is great, probably happens every 4 or 5 trips for me on the ark. And then there are the work your a** off days only to get stiffed, oh well. I would say both days you were right on target.
