NC Paddling over Christmas?

Anything running in Dec?
Is the N. Whitewater center any good? I have heard mixed reviews about the play holes.
My best friend live out there and just started boating and has a solid roll. I wanna get her out on the river.

...any advice on where to go out there in Dec?

Thanks,
Christine

I think the upper green runs whenever the narrows run thats like a class2-3 run and the natahala runs all year I think, and there are lots of good class 4 runs as well wilsons, watagua ect., Me and Christian are going to be there this winter also.

A lot depends on how wet of a season it is.

Some other intermediates not mentioned:

Pigeon, Lower Big Creek, Tuck., French Broad 6 & 9, Chattooga III (SC), Nolichucky, Little Tennessee.

Pigeon, Tuck, Little TN all depend on dams...I would guess there isn't much in the way of scheduled releases that time of year, but they should run with a good rain.

Edit:

Ocoee runs weekends till early november, if she's already out there.

Char. Center

The Charlotte Center is cool, but the play features suck. It's extremely shallow throughout. It's definetly worth the drive if you are in the North Carolina area and other stuff is running, but not worth the drive if the South remains bone dry as it has throughout most of summer

Well, last christmas break I ran wilson's like, 3 times, north fork french broad twice, big laurel which came out onto the french broad at 10 grand, davidson at 4 ft, and a little park and huck run at flood stage which turned from a class II+ creeking run to class V- big water.

Tends to be one of the wetter times of the year. I would call it unlucky if you didn't get to run anything cool, and green is basically always going.

When I lived in Asheville the majority of my paddling was done from October through March, with the exception of the dam release water in the summer. There are mile and miles of whitewater in NC: American Whitewater - NC State Rivers

If you're up for driving 2 hrs or less, TN has some sick runs that are an easy shot from the Asheville area: American Whitewater - TN State Rivers
