Moab trip. How is the kayaking there?

I am going to Moab and will be camping at Onion Creek. How is the stretch from Onion Creek to Takeout Beach? Do I need a guide?
Does anyone know of any boaters or outfits I can contact?

Easy class II day run. A few small rapids to be mindful of, especially White Creek. If you are a beginner/novice kayaker, then you will definitely want a stronger kayaker or someone in a ducky along for safety. Extra people with you is always a good idea on any river. There are usually commercial outfitters on this run most days if the weather is good. Lots of outfitters in Moab that you can talk to.

If you've been paddling since 2001 and get more than a couple days a season you will be fine. Wide open channels with some nice waves. I ran it on my SUP this spring and I had never laid an eye on it before.

It's flatwater. If you are looking for a picnic, you will have a great time.

We went down there in February and paddled. Nothing crazy. Sure was a nice escape from the depths of winter's waterless abyss. Pretty tough to beat 70 degrees in February... nice sandy beaches, plus the runoff hadn't started so the river was still super green and made for a really cool contrast against the red rocks.

This might give you an idea. This was from a Thanksgiving trip a few years back. http://youtu.be/--EGhJ4YVwc
