Middle fork san joaquin devils postpile video

For people (Ian) who dont have facebook here is a video of our recent trip to the devils postpile section of the middle fork of the san joaquin. Rolf said it best "If you want to have a fun kayak trip go to the middle kings, if you want to suffer and have an adventure go to the postpile"

I have to disagree with this statement. While the postpile is an incredible adventure you don't have to suffer. I love both the MFK and the DPP but I think that hiking 12 miles with a heavy boat over bishop pass is a lot more suffering than anything on the DPP. Oh and the postpile is a lot of fun.

Yeah I pulled the pussy move and got donkeys, which makes the hike a ton easier. But the paddle to portage ratio on the kings is unbelievable, none of the portages take over 10 minutes (if you run the raw dawg). I love the dpp it is one of the most amazing places I have ever been but for me if you want to just plan kayak go to the kings. Can't go wrong with any of the high sierras, can't believe how long they ran this year.

O yeah there are two gauges for the run, at the putin gauge we had 140ish and the miller crossing estimate was 500-600ish, but the run can be done at a variety of levels but lower allows you to fire up more of the big drops, check out: http://www.kayakphoto.com/darinmcquo...directory.html for darin mcquoids site

I guess I'm remembering things wrong but I dont remember any super complicated or long portages, your probably right as it sounds like you have done them multiple times
