making a video, size issues

Seems like everyone is making videos lately so I thought I would see if anyone uses the Pinnacle 9 software. Trying to make the videos more internet friendly. The first video I made of my boaterx footage came out to 500meg. I cut the quality down and size of the display and shortened to about 1.5 minutes and got it down to 20meg. Is that about avg for 1.5 minutes or is their more that I can do?

File size is a function of frame size + frame rate + data rate. It's usually a balancing act of all 3.

not sure what options pinnacle gives you, but try this.

make your movie 320x240
frame rate 10-15 fps
data rate (depends on how small you want it): 200- 400 kbps or so.

Pinnacle is no good for big projects

I used pinnacle when I first started making videos and discovered lots and lots of bugs with it.

It is great for the average consumer just messing around with video editing but it is just unreliable for anyone wanting to do more than that. It didn't render like it should and freezes were common...Stay away from pinnacle if the video is anything important.

Adobe Premiere is a good one to use
Sony Vegas is probably a more Affordable option

I am an extremely average consumer when it comes to making videos and the adobe is quite expensive. Was just trying to hack my way through it. LVM I aint.

UncleB, send me your credit card number and we can talk. I think you have to have a Colorado Drivers License to see my videos, so reply back when you get in back in the state.

i have been using vegas 5 for the past two years for my ski movies and it works great. there is a bunch of plug-ins for FX and shit you can get online, and once you get the feel for it you'll find it's actually super user friendly. worth the money for sure.

There are a ton of editing systems out there as we all know. I use Avid Adreneline and Final Cut Pro 5. The trick is in the compression to export it as a Quicktime, Flash or Windows media file (yuk). I use "Cleaner 6.0" which shrinks the file size a great deal . It does depend on the fram rate, key frames, date rate, etc. Many of these programs offer a way to export using "Sorenson" and have many pre-sets available. Unfortunately you have to experiment a little to get the best of all worlds. I have a clip on my website which was massive and I shrunk it to less then 10 megs to post it.
Here are some #'s I use. 4x3 video- 320x240. Bit depth, millions of collors. Sorenson 3 video compressor. Spacial quality 60. 30frames per sec. key frames every 300. video date rate 400kbs/sec.

Look on 2POP.com and do a search for some ther options and more specifics on compression.

Hope tha helps

-Brook
