Make this season better

Since cayo responded on the new goods thread and got me thinking, I figured I'd try to clarify what my post was all about. I want everyone to have their best season yet.

For me it includes doing the following:

Running as many rivers that I haven't done as possible
teaching a friend
paddling at night at least once
soloing an easy run
running at least one rapid entirely and intentionally backwards
always be partially packed to leave town for last minute phone calls
paddle out of state as much as possible
be willing to hike/drive as far as it takes
enjoy overnight river trips
share the adventures with many friends
spend every weekend exploring

In short, I'm going to go kayak. As Hilleke says, "that's what kayakers do."

Someone that looks like me bootlegged the top of a permitted run by putting in at night and paddling down to some rafters that had left in the morning and spent the night in the canyon.

Some nerd at the put-in campground heard something and said, hey there's someone out there and the alarm went up and lots of other nerds started shining flashlights in the river. You think the rangers get pissed when you bring a dog to the put-in. Oh boy, that's nothing. Anyways, after escaping the rangers then he had to deal with pitch blackness because he picked a cloudy night. Once was enough.

Sounds like a good list. I enjoy all of those things. So far this is the least amount of boating I have started a season out with. Gotta get after it.

Thanks for the motivation, Dave

excellent goals, I did a solo midnight run on Sho Sho a while back. I thought my eyes would adjust to the dark but I forgot to factor in all the traffic from I-70. The moon was not visible through most of the canyon so it was super dark, but it was shining on all day wave like a spotlight...sweet.

Good list

We ran lower Rustic in the dark once, pretty cool all you could see were whitecaps on waves and peoples camp fires, kinda sketchy hard to warm up if you flipped or swam.Cutch maybe you could put in where we took out,FULL MOON ON THE UPPER NARROWS!

How do ypu use those little faces?

oh cutch you forgot taking a foriegn trip, especially boaters of your caliber should be paddling abroad, you know the other 95%of the world. That goes for all you youngins', kayakin' or no , get out there and see the world before you have a bunch of responsibilities. If your'e older go do the stuff you always dreamed of before you croak,or you could be like me and just never grow up.

I got em all except for the solo and intentional backwards rapid. The solo is still to come, and hopefully a backwards run in a foreign country. How's everyone else doing?

Also, I'd add swim to the list. If you didn't swim unintentionally, you should swim something intentionally. Good skills to have.

Have at least one perfect run. Where you nailed every eddy, you sorched every boof, you only used the paddle strokes needed, Your lines were flawless, Top to bottom.
