Anybody been down the Main Salmon in late Aug or early Sep? We have a 8/30 put in date this year. Did it a few years ago in early July with some pretty good flow going. Just wondering how much different the river runs that late in the season.
I have been down the main many times in late August and the water will be low, but the beaches magnificent. Good time for a family to float since the rapids and water flow are much more forgiving.
The downside is that generally you will not be able to "jet back" or return to Corn Creek in a jet boat rather than the car shuttle and the long stretches of flat water make it work when the wind blows up canyon in the afternoon. Hopefully we will have a mild fire season. Seems like everything has burned downriver in the last 20 years.
I have a permit for the 21 of August and looking forward to good swimming and beaches.
Huge sand beaches, possibility of fires, hot afternoons, low water, very mellow ww, more "on water" time, fewer people, better fishing, maybe bugling elk, thunderstorms most afternoons. Should be a lot of fun.
