Lyons River Roar-Whitewater Festival
Come on up to Lyons on June 13th and enjoy a day of whitewater festivities in the cool Town of Lyons. Events include a whitewater rodeo in the Black Bear Hole, a 5-7 km Hare Brain Running Race (similar to a hare and hound running race), a downriver race, and a first-of-its-kind BoaterCross Relay race.
The rodeo is a Colorado Cup whitewater rodeo series event. The Colorado Cup crowns an overall winner based on the standings of paddlers in six whitewater festivals in the state. The Hare Brain Running Race course is not predetermined; runners must follow flour markings laid down by the hare. The first person to catch the hare wins a prize and there will be a mens and a womens winner. In the BoaterCross Relay Race, teams consisting of one to four competitors must paddle the whitewater course, run back to the put-in through an obstacle course, and paddle the course again. The first team to complete 4 full laps is the winner. Cash and merchandise will be awarded to the winners of all events. Everyone is a winer so for all others, we have beer provided by Oskar Blues/Dales Pale Ale. The entry fee for any number of whitewater events is $20. The entry fee for the Hare Brain running race is $10.
