Lyons Outdoor Games-NEW EVENTS THIS YEAR

We have added some new events and brought back an old one. This year we brought back the 3 mile downriver race (all classes), a slalom race in at the October Hole with some new kick ass features, a short track mountain bike race, skateboarding comp and a "hole" lot more...

Check out the schedule and more at:

Hey can we just show up and sign up? Also when it says all classes for racing does that mean class 3,4,5 sections of the river are raced? If so what sections???

Given the characteristics of both sections of the Saint Vrain, I am not sure how one could feasibly raft it. I am not saying it couldn't be done but I could not see anything more than a Mini-Me or small paddle cat get down any of the sections (but I am not a rafter) besides Apple Valley.

Probably makes the options and draw for rafters low, maybe you can come up with the course or event for the rubber? I doubt they intentionally snuffed anyone, the games are sweet and take advantage of most of what Lyons has to offer, if they could showcase rafting too I bet they would.

Downriver race is where on the schedule?

I couldn't find it amongst all that zealous coloration

Okay, I'm with stupid...I found it, kinda sucks to run it between the Rodeo events....just saying it might not work as planed with racers coming through the hole while boaters are disco dancing with their Phonix Monkey

It was cool to see so many juniors/cadets in the play holes today.
SSV is sweet right now. Proving Grounds is the low side of good (very runnable)
The bike jumps, pump track and short track are already hoppin'
Did I mention there's a new Sushi bar in town.
LOG will be out of control this year.
There's a new course for the SSV race that will for sure step it up and add a whole new twist to the creek race concept!!

same ssv race...better flow

SSV race is still a sprint race this year (.4 miles, 1/3 of that is V+). Starts .2 miles above Narrows and ends just below Jihad. Best flows to date for the creek race. Praying that we get 300cfs by Saturday. For more info about the race see the sticky thread at the top.

FYI, there are two river races. The downriver race is Class II water and about 3.5 miles long What I mean by all classes is that we can have an Open Class (Slalom and Downriver boats), Creek Boats and ..............Rafts??? I say bring it on Teleboater. Let me know if you are coming and we will try and get a 12 footer and a Lyons crew to race ya. We can have that class if we have 2 or more boats, so get another crew to pony up. I would not recommend anything over 12' though and expect small tight run.

I paddled the course today at 240? and I think it will go with a few thin spots that may require some running shoes, but we are going to try and get at least 300 cfs from the Buttonrock folks, which would definitelty make it go.

The other river race is of course the SSV Creek Race Cutch is talking about and that is a full on Class V race that would be a bit tough on the rubber.

Arn did a lot of drugs when he was younger
There is NO down river race
The Boater cross is a team Boarder cross like event with contact and obstacles. super fun and great to do with your buddies.
Apple Valley is a great scenic 2+ run you can take all the way to the BB hole
See you this weekend
