Lookin to float from Delta to Bridgeport on Saturday and was looking for some help with where to camp and wanted to make sure that Bridgeport is a decent road and take out?? Any advice is much appreciated!
Good spots to camp at mouth of Dominguez canyon. Plus if you could do the 1 mile or so hike to the waterfall (which may not be running given 95 degree heat we have been subjected to) and some cool petroglyphs and desert bighorn sheep to see. When you get to the first petroglyph look up on the wall to the north (near) wall and there is a good sized one up high that is a short walk up some rocks. If the creek is running there is a collection of small pools above the waterfall that are fun to soak your feet in but suspect the plateau is out of snow. The waterfall is not marked at all and is on your left. There was a thread about this area with a link to the BLM brochure with a map I think.
The Bridgeport road is fine. The takeout requires you to duck under a railroad truss and carry your boat a bit but is do able. Keep a lookout on river left for an old waterwheel which is cool. There were some hearty folks back in the day who settled this land. Imagine the Gunny back in days before dams! Now that would be a float trip.
Consider putting in at Cory bridge east of Delta and running the new section since you will have lots of time given camping plans and it stays light till 9. PM me if you want other info or want to talk.
