Lower Fryingpan

Not sure if the Lower 'Pan is of interest. But, the Upper 'Pan has been hitting 1800 cfs very late at night. As a result, today I sent the following:

We are still anticipating high inflows to Ruedi Reservoir over the next few nights due to melting snow. As a result, we will increase releases from the dam to the Fryingpan River twice tomorrow. Both increases will be in 50 cfs increments.

The first increase will be at 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. That will put the river at 292 cfs.

The second release increase will be tomorrow afternoon around 5 p.m. It will put the ‘Pan at 342 cfs (assuming the Rocky Fork continues in the upper-40 cfs range).

The Ruedi Weather Station Website is also tracking reservoir elevations: www.usbr.gov/gp/ecao/ruediweatherstation.html

Ran the upper yesterday and it was pretty clean but you still need to scout every rapid since wood was on the move. Lower had some big trees across it so be careful!

The lower is good fun once it gets over 300...500 is better. There were a couple of limbo/roll moves necessary to get under downed trees last fall...and 1 mandatory portage just below Slide Falls, but otherwise 2 fun IV- drops and a handfull of solid III's. It is roadside, so a quick scout would be a good idea....maybe something to hit with the RF and Crystal next weekend.

Thanks for the update Kara!
