Looking for Joyce Ungar, first female to solo kayak Grand Canyon

Hi all, say, can anyone help me with info on the first woman solo kayaker in the Grand Canyon? I think her name was Joy or Joyce Ungar, or something like that, from Moab. Do you remember the details? Like the year? Seems like the early 80s maybe? Is Joyce still alive? Do you know how I can contact her? Thank you all so much, yours, tom

Wondering if Patricia C. McCairen , author of "Canyon Solitude", would be able to direct you to some info. Also came across this site:
Grand Women Kayaking the Grand Canyon | NRS Community
Perhaps contact NAU and/or Brad Dimmock (AZRA)?

Turns out there are a number of links for Joy Ungricht:

Ungricht, Joy Photograph Collection :: Univ of Utah - Encoded Archival Description (EAD) Finding Aids

DEATH: JOY UNGRICHT CARBER | Deseret News

A Woman's World Again: True Stories of World Travel - Google Books (see chapter starting p. 40)

The Deseret News - Google News Archive Search

BQR - summer1998 - Passings

Breaking into the current: boatwomen of the Grand Canyon - Teal - Google Books (see p. 12)

but Barbara Wright may have preceded Joy by a year or two. Fun stuff out there... yours, tom

Hi all, just a quick update. Just spoke with Joy's husband, Robert "Butch" Carber. Butch is faily certain Joy didn't kayak through Grand Canyon. Any other leads on early female kayakers in Grand Canyon would be greatly appreciated, all the best, Tom
