Lodore Clip/TR

Had a killer time last week on Lodore. If you haven't done that section of river before on the Green, don't do it. The permits are hard to get, the scenery sucks and the rapids are too scary. I recommend going to Ruby/HT and fighting over campsites. Seriously don't bother applying for permits next year, it's not worth it.

Where did you camp and do you have any hikes you'd suggest?

Camped at Pot Creek, Rippling Brook and Jones Hole. All the camps in Lodore canyon have incredible beaches right now from the high water earlier this year. Camps below Jones hole are pretty open and exposed.

Take the hike from Jones Hole up the creek to the junction. Hang a left and in a couple hundred yards you'll come to a small water fall you can plug at the top and splash people below. It's about 2 miles to the fall from the river.

Ladore 5 October

Awesome cinematography!! Thanks for posting. I have a permit 5 October. I'm hoping they will still be shooting 2600 cfs out of the dam. Does anyone know about predictions for flow then?

Thanks for posting the pics. Looks fun, I can't wait for my upcoming trip.

I don't mean to be nit-picky here and am just wondering so a few friendly quesitons about how you're rigged...I noticed that on triplet you didn't have anything for the kids to hold onto...have you considered some straps across the paco pads? Sure looks like they could end up swimming pretty easy.

At HH mile it does look like you have a bowline or something for them to hold onto...but I'm wondering how long that rope is...is it long enough that it could wrap around their feet?

Lastly, dude in the front with the paddle seemed to cause you more harm than good.

Thanks for the hike suggestion. We are planning on heading up to the falls. did you check out the cave or petroglyphs/pictographs?

If a dude with a paddle causing your rowing some problems, you should rethink your rowing technique.

Honestly I wasn't really rowing. If I have a guy in front with a paddle I let him do all the work to get through the rapids. Why row when you can have someone else paddle? Besides what else will we use for the groover trail?

As for the kids, if I think it's going to be a wild ride I have them get down in the bow compartment like I have them on hells half mile. They're kids...they don't think to hold on to stuff when the boat goes over or stuff happens, they simply react at that age. To each his own.
