local-ish multi-day??

quick question...
i posted a few days ago asking about which section of the san juan to run- upper or lower- and might now be changing gears altogether...

looking for suggestions for a 3-5 day trip that's kid-friendly in early august. we'll be taking my 17-month old daughter along- she has done ruby/horsethief a few months ago, and i have guided/rowed rivers in colorado and alaska for years- i'd be comfortable running her through read-and-run class 3. my wife and i are just a bit concerned that the drive over to the san juan might not make a 26-mile river trip worth it- esp. with a little one who has MUCH less patience in a car seat than she does in a raft.

we have done cat and deso- so we'd like to see something else.
ideas i came up were were...
1. labyrinth- is there enough flow to battle the possible head winds?
2. chama- is it still running on the weekends- and is a cancelation permit a possibility?
3. anything in southern wyoming??

thanks in advance for ideas!

Early August water will be low most places

We have 2 young kids and did Labyrinth in June. Lots of rowing with the headwind.
I don't know where you are driving from but from front range it is still 6 hours to Green River put-in.

The Upper C could be multi day (Pumphouse to Burns) but the railroad at night was a killer for us.

Yampa was a nice float (South Beach to Duffy Mt) last week but it was getting pretty low.

Gunnison River (Dominguez Canyon) is another nice one.

If you can score a permit on the San Juan that is what I would do. We loved that. We floated from Bluff to Mexican Hat.

The Poudre would be perfect.

Day 1: Bridges. Camping riverside
Day 2: Bridges. Camping riverside
Day 3: Bridges. Camping riverside
Day 4: layover day at Mishawaka
Day 5: Long day, Bridges twice
Day 6: Bridges

Oh wait, that's my schedule in August. See you there!

Hmm, that might be a little too "varied."

The San Juan is a drive but worked great for me (1.5 year old) and my wife. I second Pumphouse to Dotsero or the Colo from Cisco to Moab but thst is way hot in aug.
