Let's Have Fun this Summer, But...

Hey Y'all,

It looks like our predictions of water levels is coming true. This is great for all of us, but remember to be safe this summer.

There has already been some bad news (tubers) on the Poudre. My heart goes out to the friends and families.

Let's be responsible and help those who need it this summer.

Jamie

I was up there all weekend and never saw any rescue, there was just hordes of people tubing, paddling, and everything else especially the lower canyon. Looks like it was a little closer to town, I also send my condolences to the friends and families:

Driving down yesterday around 4:00 we saw the rescue vehicles and the news crew right as the river crosses under Overland Trail.

Be safe out there.

confluenza high jinx

I think everyone wants to get in on the high water fun. I don't blame them, just wish they were better prepared.

I slipped down to confluence yesterday afternoon to get in some quick play and watched a guy in an old mongoose come down through the last 3 drops upside down, frantically trying to hand roll. Got to him coming through the last drop and he had about given up.

Hands of God his life jacket shoulder straps ready to fight a drowning man but he had gone noodle. I think he had about given up, but started gagging lots of water once he hit air. I couldn't pop his skirt because he had the loop UNDER his skirt band! No life jacket. He couldn't pop his skirt, was trapped in his boat and almost drowned. Maybe mid fifties?

Finally got him out and up to shore. He was pretty shaken up. Didn't look like he had paddled much if at all. Called over a couple of rangers to get him squared away. Felt bad for the guy.

Agreed, makes sense to keep an eye out for the weekend warriors when you can. That guy was about 5 seconds from having a cracked chest plate with no guarantees.

nice job!

sounds like you saved this guys life!

Big props to you Mike - in a day and age when it's more common for boaters to ignore an emergency that's not in their immediate group, especially at the play hole it's great you stepped up!

He was lucky you were there, that's for sure.
