Kids on Low Water Cataract?

Would you take kids/wives on low water Cat? I am assuming it will be 3,500-4,000 level in a few weeks. Our kids have Lodore/Yampa/Deso experience, but no real rapid swims or flips. All boatman have decent experience and have a good motor. Only one boatman (me) has been on Cat at 7.5k. Any advice is welcome.

Alex

I took mine, ages 6 and 8 at 10k. They, along with their mother walked big drop 3. Great trip for them at that level.

Is the run obvious in Big Drop 3? How is the walk around it?

I can't help you about the actual run at these low levels, but the walk around is boulder hopping in places, so take your time and be careful. I helped my family walk it and then ran it.

Just curious why to walk it, is it a big ass hole, pourover, high wrap potential?

So,
Its been years since ive run it third low but I just in my log book of my trips and I wrote "ran left side of 3, tight fit not much room."

I remember it being tight and you just dropped in next to the big mossy rock.

It should be easy to scout from river left after 2 @ this level.

I'm sure others have gone down recently who can provide better beta than the 18 year old info I'm providing.

We did it earlier this year at just under 10k. The Big Drops were easier than they look. We scouted all three from river left. We ran 3 to the right, and it was a lot wider over there than it looked from the left bank. If it's harder at lower levels, it's certainly walkable, but like others have said, it's a lot of big bolders to get over and around. We just dressed the kids (ages 6 through 10) for a swim and ran all three. They had a blast. Big Drop 3 was my son's favorite of the day. With your experience, I think you'll be fine.
