Kids on high water (June 1st) Gates of Lodore??

I have a friend who wants to bring his 6 year old on Gates of Lodore. Are the bigger rapids walkable? Easily scoutable? How many days are good for a leasurely trip? Any recommendations on campsites and hikes are also appreciated. Thanks

Doubt your flows will be all that "high" and everything is scoutable. Jone's hole is nice to stay at but makes for a long last day.

Plenty of time to learn how to swim, if he/she doesn't already know how? I'd've been pissed as a youngster!

Bigger rapids are easily scoutable and can be walked around, but the trail around Hell's Half Mile is steep and narrow.

He knows how to swim, as well as any 6 yo, and has done 400 miles of river trips, but I just wanted to make sure he can walk the questionable stuff.

5 days is best and the most you can do. Hells would be the only one I would worry about walking, that said walking hells half mile leaves no real good place to pick up the walkers. To be safe scout upper disaster falls, dont go right at the island after lower disaster falls. The ranger was telling people to go right there last year and is totally wrong and dangerous. Leads into an undercut wall river right. Scout triplet falls and hells half mile. After the confluence its pretty basic and maybe scout moonshine if you feel better about it. Good to scout the first time and with kids for sure but really pretty basic other than hhm.
