Kayaking in Germany for 2012.

Moved to the Mannheim, Germany area and am looking for boaters around the area to kayak with (class 3 + working up this year) Does anyone know any boaters out this way or any where to get in contact with anyone out here. I plan on making a lot of trips down to the alps when time permits (mostly weekends).

Augsburg

I don't know about Mannheim, but Augsburg has a large boating community. It is the site of a manmade class 3 slalom course built for the ’72 Olympics and has hosted many world championships and rodeo’s since (does close down in the winter). There are also 2 club houses onsite and several stores in town where you could inquire and perhaps post something on a bulletin board.

There’s probably a "Kanu Verein" in your area- any activity you can think of has a well-organized club in most German cities.

Munich also has a small in-town run and kayakverein. It's not fantastic, but I used to enjoy getting a little wet and then grilling and drinking beers with the other folks there. They also have on site boat storage and sometimes go on trips. We had a blast paddling the beautiful Soca river in Slovenia with those guys!

Also, if you don't speak German then toytown is a great resource.

Can you update this when you find out more? I'll be visiting next year and looking at getting a run in, preferably closer to Munich, but I'll take what I can get. Not bringing any boat or paddle, but I may be able to bring all my other gear; so I'll just be looking for rentals, something wet to float on(up to Class III+ considering not my own vessel/paddle), and people to float with.
I've seen guided tours take kayaks down a Class III section of the Inn River, right across the border in Austria. That might be my only option.

Munich Kayking Links

CMK - Munich Kayaking Club (in German)
ToyTown - This is a great resource (in English) for pretty much anything you might be interested in doing in Germany. If you cruise the forums a bit then you'll find some information about paddling and could probably even hook up with some other paddlers.

As for the Inn, I have a friend who used to guide rafts there and he seemed to like the river a lot.
