Kayaking around Calgary

Does anyone know anything about kayaking around Calgary. Right now I'm stuck in Houstin, TX of all god awful places. I'll be here for a year but have the opportunity to go to Calgary next year. Any information would be helpful. I'm a IV+ boater looking to step it up, maybe get into some expedition kayaking.

Are you talking about Calgary, TX, or Calgary, Alberta?

There's lots of great stuff in BC (as you probably already know) and some classic runs in Northern Montana. Ontario and Quebec are too far for day trips but doable for long weekends and both have some of the best paddling in the world. Sorry but I don't really know much about the Alberta/Saskatchewan area. Hopefully someone else will chime in with some more useful info.

Check out the Kicking Horse Drainage. Tons of awesome paddling and you can go as big as you want to go with water all season. Yolo Creek is sick. It's all to the west near Banf out of Calgary....

There is some paddling further west in Ontario that isn't quite as far. I don't seem to remember thinking it was that far but it was a while ago. Sorry if I was a little misleading.

There's ton's of kayaking west of Calgary, 1 hr from the Rocky mountains, Stuart Smith has a two books, 250 different runs in the Rocky Mountains, here's his website http://headwaterspress.com/.

Ontario IS approx 2000 miles away.

British Columbia is a stones throw away and has thousands of different runs within 2-12 hr drive.
Aquabatics is a Local kayak store in Calgary I think their website is aquabatics.com.

Hope this helps,

Razzle,

Any ideas on which drainages a few Colorado Creek boaters should hit within the next 3 weeks? There seems to be a pretty big void in BC creeking beta... any good areas to meet up with other creekers in BC?? We're leaving Friday headed for the border... we're jonesin for BC goods!

thanks,

Bryan Owen
