You need to talk to Ferdinand. Search the buzz for Kato, and ask him for Ferd's contact info.

When I went about 10 years ago, I shipped a boat ahead of time via Delta Air Cargo. Had to pay an additional tariff to get it from customs, but as I recall it wasn't too much. I was willing to deal with the process because I was there for 3 months, but it might be cheaper to buy a boat here, ship it, then sell it in Turrialba. Here are Delta's rates: http://images.delta.com.edgesuite.ne...est_Tariff.pdf
Or just try to buy a boat there from a departing boater.

It seemed back then that a lot of the rental outfits had pretty poor boat selections, it was pricey, and the market for us to sell our boats was good. That might have changed, but shipping is an option if you prepare ahead of time. Of with a rental company you might be able to take out a playboat for half the trip and a creekboat for the other.....

Goddam jealous of you by the way.

Kayaks in CR

I just returned from CR two weeks ago and did a two day on the Pacuare. I was surprised at the lack of boat resources in Turrialba as I thought that was supposed to be a paddler's central area. I relied on getting a worn out WS Forplay and werner paddle with half-worn blades. Still had a great time paddling the Pacuare but not what I was hoping for in terms of equipment. Our guide said you may have better luck in San Jose but unfortunately I'm not sure where to check in the city. Have fun!
