Joe Hutch Rapid TR

So I finally got around to uploading my run through Joe Hutch in Desolation Canyon last July. I really think the high water this year has mellowed out/altered this rapid. Anyway, this will give you an idea of what Joe Hutch is like now.

Best part of Deso this year for me was being able to take my Dad down it.

I had come to enjoy the tension that the new Joe Hutch (really Cow Swim Rapid) brought to a Deso trip. I am a little sad to see it mellowed out.

I haven't run it since the flash, but yeah, this looks even mellower than the rapid was before it changed. What was this running, rbrain?

around 18K CFS

Here is a comparison video from 2010 at only 1K cfs more when we ran it in June. From memory it definitely seemed bigger in 2010.

Wow! What a difference a few years can make.

Here is what it was like in 2009 at about 12,000 cfs. The week prior (higher flow) it was flipping a lot of boats.

Deso is a river for new and starting rafters, so I am not surprised to hear of all the flips on Deso. At least it's great to learn there, the recovery is a lot easier than other places.
