Anyone ever dealt with an outfitter near Negril, Jamaica that will rent whitewater kayaks? I know there is whitewater to be had on the Great River, but hooking up a boat looks like the tricky part.

Whitewater is questionable...

My husband and I kayaked with an outfitter...Chukka was the company...on a guided trip with kayaking and ziplining. I don't know of a place that will let you rent. It's pretty back country to get to the river, too. As for whitewater...our section was flat...maybe a class I ripple. The kayaks were more like cheap duckies you would find at walmart, too. I don't know your experience with traveling independently in Jamaica...we have for the past five years...but we've always kept pretty local to Negril, Ocho Rios or Montego Bay with the cheap, illegal cab drivers off resort properties. I wouldn't have been comfortable going to the put-in, etc alone...and I did not see any private boaters. Looked like one company, one river...
