Is the San Juan Ever Going to Rise?

We've got a 6-11 launch date. As of now, the flow is under 1000 CFS. Is this ever going to rise? Last time we did it in June it was running at 8850. Sheesh.

Good question. We have a date coming up soon and are wondering what is going on.

On a side note (sorry to hijack your thead), what is the typical float time from MH to CH? 5 night???

I have done 2 to 5 nights on that stretch. Depended how much hiking the clients wanted to do. We did alot of Sand Island to CH in 5 days and we still did alot of hiking

BuRec has announced that there will be no big bump in releases from Navajo Dam, so you're pretty much at the mercy of the Animas.

I'm guessing peak flow around June 6th. I'm on a June 9th launch.

Weird outlook:

Looks like we'll miss you by a couple of days. What's your takeout date?

We're doing a 3 day kid trip from Bluff to Mexican Hat, off on Friday the 11th. I wish I was doing the lower canyon, but we decided that it would be tough for some of the kiddos because it's their first overnight...

Big Animas spike on its way down there; we're launching 5/26 and I'm watching this storm system moving into CO with a little concern. The forecast flow looks about right to me, based on weather, etc. Couple days 10 degrees warmer than forecast would help, though.

Really unfortunate they didn't do a release this year - the snowpack down there just ran out of gas, I guess.

Just got back from the San Juan, had a great time, don't let the flow numbers scare you away. Eight Foot and Government Rapids were kinda rocky but easy to scout. The two wooden dory boats with our group made it just fine so all of you rafters, duckies and kayakers will be OK. Wind was bad on two days, but low flow was not a problem. Enjoy your trip!
