Indexed oar grips

I want an index on my Cataract grips so I know where my blades are without glancing out at them.... like on a kayak paddle shaft.
I thought about filing a thumb notch on the end but I dont want to wreck the grip.
I also thought about some kind of cover pad like weekend bikers use on their midlife noise makers but I dont think they would stay put.
Any ideas???

Popsicle sticks.......... slid under the grip or taped over the grip. It's an old boater trick from waaaay back.

I've seen someone file out the ends. I didn't like it. popsicle sticks sound kind of big to me. What about a tube, about the size of a bic pen cartridge, wrapped with athletic tape?

Yeah.... I was hoping for something a little more permanent. Maybe like a piece of poly hose slipped over the grip and popsicle stick.
