IMAX film - Grand Canyon River

Anyone going to see the IMAX film at Denver Museum of Natural Science? It opens today and shows a rafting trip. A chance to relive your experiences maybe???

I plan to go sometime before it leaves. I think it runs through the middle of March. Maybe we should plan a Mountainbuzz night at the movies on an upcoming Friday night.

Saw it last weekend in another location, and was somewhat disappointed.

For starters, the opening sequence with a kayaker going over the waterfall isn't even in the Grand. Other scenes seem pretty contrived (I suppose for artistic effect.) On the good side, there is a decent amount of river footage and scenery. But they could have shown so much more of the beauty of the Canyon than they did -- rather than focus on the backstories about some of the individuals who are in the film.

I saw it last night. It was sweet! Great footage in the rapids, awesome shots of the canyon, and bikini clad 18 year old girls every other scene!

The movie is worth seeing, but it was a bit less than the previews promised. There's some good footage of some earlier rapids and of lava, as well as some footage from the more recognizable spots in the canyon, and the vista shots are beautiful. I think they could have left out all of the scientifics and background and let the river speak for itself - at one point they compare some before the dam photos with the shots from today and it is truly eye-opening. Enjoy it if you go, and if you get a chance, look at the book that they put out with the many ways it's more terrific than the movie.

I just returned from the movie. I'd like to have seen more time on the water resource issues hinted at the "River at Risk" part of the title though this would probably have resulted in information overload for a lot of viewers. It seemed like they just barely scratched the surface on how the Colorado's and other watersheds are threatened.

Yes, the shot of the yakker going over falls on a crystal-clear river was definitely contrived and NOT in the GC, but for me the story was as much about water in general and that was a good "get-the-kids-attention" shot. In general it was a decent mix of raising public awareness and showing some good whitewater.

That film was bull shit, I have to ask, and take offense, but have your expectations been lowered in life over the last few years to the point where you except that shit for fuckin' quality? are you people retarded? That cockmunch took his daughter out for last minute crotch shots before she went off to college. Did you see the guide, he is legit. The rest of that movie was crap, not informative, not risk, Africa, wtf? These people have no bearing on anything! you people are......
