iceland easy access?

gonna be a tourist with the family this june in iceland. am hoping to find a easy access class 3-4 trip w/ gear rental. we will have a car and will be driving around the country. quick and easy access because i can't leave them behind for very long, but would love to get on some whitewater while there, at least for a few hours.

thanks

There's was a really good boater from around here who lived in Iceland for a little bit that's been on the buzz. Maybe if you search the archives you can find his handle and PM him. Think his named start is P...something?? Can't remember.

I met a guy in rockwood this summer that was a raft guide from Iceland. I have his contact info somewhere, and I'll PM it to you if I can find it.

I'm planning a trip there next year, so would you mind posting back any useful beta that you end up with? Have a good trip.

Was there last May and was gonna' try and do the same thing, but it proved to be logistically difficult. Definitely a lot of options to boat, not alot of options to find gear. I bet there's probably only 30 boaters in the whole country. That said, if you can find someone on the Hvita' near Godafoss, or up north near Skagafjordur that you could get a boat from you'd be in business...water everywhere!
A good ol fashioned commercial day raft trip is sometimes the best bet for this kinda' thing.

I went up there to boat with Paul while he lived there. Its sick...if you have all your own gear. I think your best option is to do the rafting deal, there's some really beautiful glacial rivers that are super fun. The boaters in Iceland aren't too fired up, they are scarce and the boating is generally big waterfalls or unknown canyons with some big stuff, not a lot of good roadside runs you could tackle solo with the family running shuttle. Go rafting, go to as many hot springs as possible and bring more warm clothes than you think you'll need. The name doesnt lie.

What time will you be there? Extreme Comp week is a great time to hook up with paddlers and get out. You could find gear then too.
