Ice dam breaks on the Gallatin River

Thought you guys would get as big of a kick out of this as I did. Stumbled across it today, worth a look see

Wow. I sat openmouthed for four minutes. What a thing to see.

And the dumb part of me that I don't often listen to thinks "wow, it would be awesome to be riding that wave downstream."

That's cool. Two years ago on mlk day I saw the Lochsa do a similar thing. It didn't have the big wave, but out if almost nowhere the river was filled with ice like that, plus a bunch if wood. Good thing it was in the drive back up AFTER our run.

Real cool. I like to browse YouTube sometimes late at night and see what I come across. Something similar happens at Yosemite in the spring. YT has it.

It said on the youtube comments that it happened in mid December. I guess a fisher got stranded for a bit as well.

When I was a kid an ice dam broke free on the Allegheny River through Oil City, PA and took out every parking lot and the rear end of every business that backed up against the river. It shook this up for sure and how they dealt with upstream ice.
