Also, I am a solid Class V rafter and have never done Gore. I heard the Fest was cancled this year due to hi water. Is that true? Any words of wisdom on my first Gore Canyon run?

Depends on how low you want to go. Lots of water in the reservoirs. I would guess that flows stay a nice medium to med/low through the end of september, low to med/low in oct, and crappy weather leading to low motivation end of october. Gonna be a good late season in gore.
