How do you mark your boat?

Do you just use a sharpie on your raft or what? I've noticed that sharpie tends to wear off pretty easily, so is there something better to put contact info on my boat? Do you also mark your frame? Ideally I'd like to keep my stuff mine and make it more annoying for someone to swipe it and easier for it to be returned if my gear decided to make a solo whitewater trip.

Sharpies seem to work pretty well. I have had dry bags and canoes marked that way for years without fading appreciably. You can usually get the marks off with alcohol or perhaps acetone, although you may not be able to get rid of them 100%.

I think the standard marking is Name and phone number.

I probably need to go through and label my paddles and some other gear.

I've been trying to scrub off the sharpie'd name and number off a used boat I bought for the better part of a year. I hit it with toluene practically every time I take it out and it is still pretty legible. I'd say its permanent on a boat.

I use a paint marker and put my name and phone number on it. I like silver the best to show up on different colors.

sharpie fades buts never goes away. Unless you try really hard. Just like Whoapiglet i have a sharpied previous owner that you can still kind of read, after much work to remove it.

ok- now the next obvious question- any particular place you like to mark your contact info? Preferences? So the info can be seen with or with out a frame?

Check your state regs...Colorado is very clear on how they expect you mark your boat. That said, I've never seen anyone get a ticket for it, but I have seen Rangers give folks a "friendly reminder".
